  • The PRAWN rule is not working…

The PRAWN rule is not working…

The “Player Rep All-World Name” (PRAWN) rule was brought into effect some 20 years ago.

The rule has been modified many times, but the objective is to limit the number of “all-stars” per team and thereby foster parity in men’s fastpitch.

    It’s clearly not working!

The top ranked New York Gremlins had a runs for and against of 49-2 going into the final game against the Hill United Chiefs.

Granted, the Chiefs upset them in the final, and the 3rd place NE Drillers put up a respectable showing in third place, actually knocking off the Chiefs in their first encounter, but let’s face it; there are only a small handful of teams that a chance of winning it all.

In other sports top leagues; NFL, NHL, MLB, etc….there are roughly a dozen teams that have a shot at the championship. Wouldn’t it be cool if there were 8 or 12 teams who had a realistic shot at winning the ISC’s?

Many officials agree with the diagnosis but ask what would replace it.

  • Yup, riseballs actually rise!

    Yup, riseballs actually rise!

    Finally we have an answer!

A frame-by-frame breakdown that illustrates Marco Diaz’s 79 mph riseball definitely elevates as it passes through the hitting zone.

  • The “Art of Bunting” is on life support!

The “Art of Bunting” is on life support!

I’m pretty damn sure Bionoi would have at least drawn a walk, had he not been bunting!

But let’s forget this example for a second – this kid is one of the best young players in the game. They were leading 5-1 at the time, and with so much speed in play, the strategy may been to force an error or beat out a bunt and really thrust the dagger into the heart of the Gremlins – not a bad strategy …but…

What about all the other failed attempts? Why are there so few attempts and so many fails?

Guys can’t seem to get a bunt down very often, and when they do – the advancing runner still fails to score – or an extra base hit or bomb is recorded, so the sacrifice was done in vain.

But what really irks me is how many bunt attempts are fouled off or whiffed completely! What’s with that?
